Lunar and solar eclipses
A lunar eclipse (chandra grahanam) happens on a pournami when the Moon passes through the Earth's shadow; a solar eclipse (surya grahanam) happens on an amavasya when the Moon passes in front of the Sun. A lunar eclipse looks the same from everywhere the Moon is up, so its times are the same instant worldwide; a solar eclipse is seen only from part of the Earth and its times and coverage change from city to city. The list is computed from the NASA/JPL ephemeris and checked against NASA's published eclipse predictions (greatest eclipse and contacts within seconds). 2027 has one more eclipse, the penumbral lunar eclipse of 18 July 2027, in which the Moon only grazes the outer shadow (magnitude 0.001); it cannot be seen and has no page.
