Marriage muhurtham dates 2026–2027: how they are chosen
This site does not publish a list of marriage muhurtham dates for 2026–2027 – on purpose. This page sets out the rules a muhurtham is chosen by, where two standard books – Daivajna Rama's Muhurta Chintamani and B. V. Raman's Muhurtha – agree, and where they do not. Every rule below appears in both books unless it is marked as Raman's.
Why there is no date list here
- The two books fix the months differently: Raman by lunar month (Magha, Phalguna, Vaisakha and Jyeshtha good; Kartika and Margasira ordinary), Muhurta Chintamani by the Sun's sign.
- Regional custom differs: Raman notes that Tamil families accept a wedding in Ashadha (before the Sun enters Karkata) while people in Andhra and Karnataka object strongly.
- Part of the check depends on the couple: the wedding lagna must not be the 8th from the bride's or the groom's janma lagna (ashtama lagna dosha), and tarabalam and chandrabalam are checked for both.
- The wedding lagna changes with the town's latitude and longitude: no planet in the 7th house, no Mars in the 8th, no Venus in the 6th – a minute-by-minute calculation.
- Raman himself warns that the marriage dates printed in panchangams often carry important flaws and follow local usage. We prefer stating the rules clearly to publishing wedding dates that may be wrong for your family.
Marriage rules on which both books agree
- Nakshatras (free of vedha): Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati. Raman: reject the first pada of Magha and Mula and the last pada of Revati.
- Tithis: avoid the rikta tithis (chaturthi, navami, chaturdashi), amavasya, ashtami, shashthi and dwadashi, and the krishna paksha after dashami.
- Weekdays: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are good; Sunday and Saturday middling; Tuesday is always rejected.
- Raman: reject the Vishti (Bhadra) karana and the yogas Vyatipata, Ganda, Vajra, Shula, Vishkambha, Atiganda, Vyaghata and Parigha, and avoid the nakshatra of an eclipse for six months.
Griha pravesam and upanayanam
Griha pravesam and upanayanam muhurthams are chosen the same way – month, tithi, weekday, nakshatra, lagna and the person's tarabalam. We have not yet checked their nakshatra and month lists against two books, so they are not given here.
How to check a date yourself
- Open our daily panchangam for the date your purohit suggests (choose your town): it gives the tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana with their end times.
- Check tarabalam and chandrabalam on that day for the bride's and groom's birth stars on our tarabalam page.
- Check the 36-point horoscope match with our marriage matching tool.
- For lagna shuddhi, moudhyam (Guru and Shukra combustion) and regional custom, ask your family purohit or your region's panchangam.
